THE PLAYERS ALLIANCE AND TEXAS RANGERS FOUNDATION TO HOLD DAY OF SERVICE AT RANGERS YOUTH ACADEMY ON MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. DAY

The Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation will partner with Food for the Soul and The Players Alliance on Monday, January 16, to host service events in conjunction with the 2023 Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service.

Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation will partner with Food for the Soul and The Players Alliance on Monday, January 16, to host service events in conjunction with the 2023 Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service.

Beginning at 10 a.m., the Rangers and Food for the Soul will distribute fresh produce and non-perishable goods to 200 families in need. The drive-through style event will be held in the Texas Rangers Youth Academy parking lot and is open to the public.

Immediately following the food distribution, 50 Texas Rangers Youth Academy athletes will participate in The Players Alliance Equip The Future™ program. The program creates mentorship opportunities for baseball and softball players to gain invaluable insight from current and former professional players on how to be successful in the game and become better prepared for challenges faced on and off the field while keeping the dream alive.

Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien, pitcher Taylor Hearn, and third base coach Tony Beasley will be on-site to participate in Monday’s events.

Also participating in The Players Alliance Equip The Future™ program will be current Major Leaguers Jackie Bradley Jr., Willie Calhoun, and Christin Stewart; former players on hand include Shawn Chacon, Torii Hunter, Darnell McDonald, AJ Andrews, Jason Bourgeois, Vic Butler, Trenidad Hubbard, Kennard Jones, Sean “Smitty” Smith, CJ Stewart, and Brandon Watson.

ABOUT THE PLAYERS ALLIANCE

The Players Alliance is an independent, nonprofit organization created to address baseball’s systematic equity and inclusion barriers by creating and supporting pathways on and off the field for an undeniable pipeline of Black talent. The organization allows former and active professional players to own and support solutions to increase participation in the beloved community of baseball with initiatives such as Equip The Future.  This program creates mentorship opportunities for baseball and softball players to gain invaluable insight on how to be successful in the game and become better prepared for challenges faced on and off the field while keeping the dream alive.

ABOUT THE TEXAS RANGERS YOUTH ACADEMY

The Texas Rangers MLB Youth Academy at the Mercy Street Sports Complex, presented by Toyota, opened in December 2017. This state-of-the-art facility provides children across North Texas with a place to play baseball and softball. In addition to providing year-round baseball and softball instruction, the Academy hosts tournaments, coaching clinics, and skills camps. It also gives young students access to tutoring programs, college prep classes, college and career fairs, financial literacy and internship programs, and MLB industry alternative career workshops.
